Orange you glad we’re having chicken? Warren County Public Schools has a special day
WARREN COUNTY, Ky. It was a fun way to enjoy lunch Tuesday at Warren County Public Schools.
The district has taken notice of student feedback and today, to add to the culture of WCPS, administration had their first “I Love Orange Chicken Day” across all their schools. Orange chicken is one of the most popular menu items in the school system, so to have some fun, they’ve decided to set a precedent. After today, WCPS will have their personal holiday every year until a new item over throws the ever so popular orange chicken, and try to break the serving record.
“So, what we’re doing throughout the district is encouraging students to either enjoy orange chicken because they already think it’s one of their favorites or try it for the first time and possibly make it one of their favorites,” says Kelly Holt, director of nutrition and dining at WCPS.
News 40 spoke to several students both on camera and in passing who said that the orange chicken was by far their favorite thing to have for lunch.
“Whenever we see it on the lunch menu, everyone’s a little happy here. We like to say, ‘if it’s orange chicken day, it’s a good day,'” says Carissa Lieber, a student at South Warren High School.
Another student, Braxton McCoy of SWHS, shared his love for the dish, saying it’s his favorite thing they serve at his school.
But, not everyone was celebrating about what was on the lunch menu.
When asked what his favorite part of the day was, WCPS second grader Cameron Cunningham said being on the news was the highlight of his day.
There are a lot of ways to describe orange chicken, but for this Spartan, there’s only one word to sum it all up:
“It’s fire,” McCoy says.
