Suspect in fatal shooting of deputy added to TBI Most Wanted list

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – A suspect wanted in connection to the fatal shooting of a Tennessee deputy is now on the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Most Wanted List.

Kenneth Wayne DeHart, Jr., 42, is wanted on warrants for first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and felon in possession of a weapon, authorities ay.

According to a preliminary investigation, Blount County deputy Greg McCowan, 43, died in the line of duty after being shot during a traffic stop on Feb. 8. During this time, authorities say DeHart also shot deputy Shelby Eggers, 22, who has since been released from the hospital.

DeHart should be considered armed and dangerous.

The Blount County Sheriff’s Office says a reward for information leading to his arrest has been raised to $100,000 as of Monday evening. The investigation is ongoing.

A funeral procession for McCowan is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 14 at Sevier Heights Baptist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee.
