FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Andy Beshear announced Thursday his administration’s closing on high-ground land that will support future homes for flood survivors.

According to a release by the governor’s office, the property is called Skyview and located in Perry County.

Severe flooding struck eastern Kentucky in late July of 2022, leading to a state of emergency, power outages affecting thousands and over 40 deaths. Today, the announcement served as one step closer to rebuilding for the families affected.

“My commitment is the same today as it was on the morning after the floods: We will be with these families until every home and every life is rebuilt,” Beshear said. “Today, we’re celebrating another major step as we help these folks recover.”

The Skyview community will house families on almost 50 acres, locating their homes five miles from downtown Hazard, Kentucky, the release states. The governor says this will place families close to schools, shopping centers and a medical center.

Construction crews are mobilizing to begin work on the site. The governor said Team Kentucky is also making great progress on six other high-ground sites as well.
