The Uptown Motel is coming down

ALLEN COUNTY, Ky. – It’s been a long process, but the Uptown Motel has come to the end of the road.

News 40 visited the Allen County Fiscal Court room Wednesday for a joint city council-fiscal court meeting to make the final decision in the decades-long journey. It’s ultimately getting demolished, and the land is being auctioned off.

News 40 spoke to community officials, who said it was time for the building to go, having a long history of drug use and crime. The hope is that a new, more positive addition will be made to the downtown area to erase some of the negative stigma surrounding the area.

Several months ago, tenants at the motel were served eviction notices.

Demolition and an auction are not for any certain dates, but the county and city are working to speed along the process as quickly as they can.
