Lineman scholarship at SKYCTC

SOUTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY – In partnership with Southcentral Kentucky Community & Technical College, the Kentucky Electric Cooperatives has been able to set up a scholarship fund at the school.

In the latter half of 2023, the KEC started to discuss the possibility of opening a pathway to their new employees. This resulted in a scholarship to SKYCTC for those individuals currently going through the 4 year linemen apprenticeship with the state.

The KEC invested 50,000 dollars into the fund which SKYCTC matched to set up an initial endowment of 100,000 dollars for the start of the program. The scholarship helps to get an associate’s degree in applied science through the college and to fund the program for the future, the part of the revenue from sales of the “lineman specialty plate” will go into the pot.

News 40 spoke to Warren County Clerk Lynette Yates who told the station that 5 of the 44 dollars the plate costs goes into funding the scholarship at the college.
