Med Center Health Endoscopy Department celebrates 100th Robotic Surgery

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Endoscopy Department at Med Center Health is celebrating their 100th surgery using an imaging machine they purchased in the summer.

The device allows Pulmonologists like Dr. Karan Singh to see clear high definition video of the inside of a patient’s lungs and since it can be moved more precisely than their older tools they can inspect potential cancers with much greater scrutiny.

“With our earlier tools, we just weren’t that successful in being able to get to those spots with the iron, with the robotic bronchoscope, we can really get to the edge of the lung. We can go off of these tiny nodes, but really suspicious looking that I may have watched earlier or I may have decided to get other forms of biopsy which have their own risks,” Singh said.

The implementation of the device was put on hold by the pandemic, but now that the department has it there is no going back. They believe that their screening accuracy has been greatly increased.
