Hart County man sentenced for illegal possession of firearm

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Hart County man was sentenced Wednesday in relation to illegal possession of a firearm.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office, Western District of Kentucky, 50-year-old Lawrence T. Carter, Jr. of Munfordville, Kentucky was sentenced to four years and nine months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.

Carter illegally possessed a handgun and ammunition in August 2022, officials say.

Carter was prohibited from owning a firearm due to a prior conviction of attempt to manufacture methamphetamine, felon in possession of a firearm and possession of an unregistered shotgun less than 26 inches in length in March 2005.

This case was under investigation by the ATF with assistance from the Cave City Police Department.
