KSP cruiser struck on I-65
MUNFORDVILLE, Ky. – A Kentucky State Police cruiser was struck by another vehicle Monday night while a state trooper was at the scene for a non-injury collision, authorities say.
According to KSP, trooper Evan Smith was at the scene around 7 p.m. at the 60.2 mile marker on Interstate 65 northbound.
Troopers say Smith was standing outside of his cruiser that was parked on the left emergency lane when the cruiser was rear-ended by a maroon Mercedes Benz, causing the Mercedes to catch on fire.
The fire was reportedly put out before the vehicle was fully involved.
Smith and the driver of the Mercedes were not injured from the crash, according to KSP.
In addition, Smith’s emergency lights were activated at the time of the crash, authorities say.
