Beshear provides weather briefing and update

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Andy Beshear held a briefing on winter storms sweeping across the commonwealth Monday afternoon.
Around 2 p.m., the governor said a second round of snow is expected on Monday afternoon and in the evening, and the heaviest snow totals are expected in eastern and southern regions.
In addition, Warren and Simpson counties have been added to a Winter Storm Warning.
On Wednesday morning, wind chills will present more of a danger. Within 30 minutes, the governor says you could get frost bite on exposed areas in expected wind chill factors. If you do not need to go outside, Kentucky Emergency Management interim director Dustin Heiser recommends not to go out in these conditions.
When driving throughout at least Thursday afternoon, use slower speeds, the governor says. Conditions will be slick in different areas, but transportation crews will be at work to help anti-icing operations.
Beshear reminds the public to have an emergency supply kit in their vehicle as well. However, drivers are discouraged from driving unless they have to.
Additionally, Beshear says a rescue operation at Red River Gorge was successful to rescue campers, thanks to the Kentucky State Police aircraft branch, local search and rescue teams and EMS.
