Wayne County man attempts to kill bed bugs by setting fire to bed

Bed bugs were a big problem for a Wayne County man.

According to court records, 59-year-old Jackie Abbott is accused of intentionally setting a fire to a bed in his apartment, in an attempt to kill bed bugs.

Now, Abbott has been charged with arson.

According to published reports, in a previous attempt to kill the bugs, Abbott filled his apartment with toxic fumes. Four emergency responders were sent to the hospital after becoming ill from those fumes.

Abbott remains in the Wayne County Detention Center.
