Handling holiday tornado trauma

BOWLING GREEN, KY.- The holidays are supposed to be the season of joy, but with constant storms and tornadoes, this time of year can be difficult for anyone.

The effects of traumatic weather experiences can be long-lasting, and create unhealthy symptoms like anxiety. With recent and past tornadoes, many people have every right to feel uneasy. Storms may even impact how you live your daily life. We spoke with the former manager of project recovery in Bowling Green to learn more about this issue.

Tyler Heckman, the former manager of Project Recovery Bowling Green shares the consequences of not taking care of your mental health. Heckman says, “You see a lot of people have weather anxiety and sleep disturbances that that start to really interfere with their personal and professional lives, and like I said, if, you know, a lot of times they don’t address those, they just kind of continue snowball and get worse, especially people start trying to compartmentalize them.
