Juvenile taken into custody after report of subject with firearm on F-S High School grounds

FRANKLIN, Ky. – A juvenile has been taken into custody after authorities say Franklin-Simpson High School received a report of a male subject with a firearm on campus.
The Simpson County Office of Emergency Management says FSHS received information that a young male was exiting a vehicle and had a gun. Police say the juvenile male never made entry into the school.
According to the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office, it responded with the Franklin Police Department and the Kentucky State Police as the middle and high school were placed on lockdown.
The male subject was quickly taken into custody on Cherry Street, officials say.
The subject’s identity will not be released at this time due to being a juvenile, according to police.
Authorities say they did a walk-through inspection of both schools and the west campus. Deputies say these facilities are cleared and the lockdown has been lifted.
There will be an increased presence of law enforcement during school dismissal.
The juvenile faces possession of a weapon on school property, possession of marijuana and third-degree criminal trespassing. After contacting the Court Designated Worker for Juveniles, officials say detectives were advised to write the juvenile a citation and release to his parents.
The Franklin Police Department will continue the investigation with the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office, South Central Kentucky Drug Task Force and KSP.
