Loose leaf pick up in Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Next Monday, the city will start loose leaf pick up, strictly for leaves.

News 40 spoke to the Director of Public Works for the city of Bowling Green today, who said that the most important thing to remember is to just set your leaves out early. Souza said this is a leaf pick up only and loose leaf at that. The department doesn’t want any leaves in bags, nor trash or tree limbs as the machine they use to pick up the leaves is essentially a giant shop vac.

Souza said they have 5 machines that are pretty expensive, so to keep them in working order, they need to be careful. The director said they’ll be picking up the leaves within the 10 zones they have designated throughout the city of snow removal, and take 2 days per zone. Souza said if you need to know when they’ll be in your neighborhood, you can type in your address on http://bgky.org/leafpickup, and make sure you have that you have your leaves out the night before pick up day.

Of course as a taxpaying citizen, this is a service offered free of charge to everyone within city limits exempting businesses. It’s pretty easy, just set your leaves out on the curb, off the street/sidewalk and away from any fire hydrants or vehicles.
