Antler Alert! Deer mating season is here

SOUTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY – Around the state, deer are working to add on to their numbers of already one million strong.

October through December is deer mating season, and Kentucky is no stranger to deer or deer-related collisions.

Wes Watt with the Kentucky Department of Transportation told News 40 Tuesday that last year, at least 3,000 crashes happened because of deer with a lot of single-vehicle incidents going unreported.

News 40 also spoke to Dan Figert with the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife, who said that this time of year, deer habitats are changing as well, which prompts the to move around.

Both Figert and Watt said regardless of where you are in Kentucky, you’re not too far from a deer.
