(CNN Chile) – The “Ring of Fire” solar eclipse is on its way, and it won’t appear again until 2046.

The solar event gains its name because of an effect that takes place when the moon is in front of the sun.

This creates a circle of light with darkness in the middle.

NASA says all continental states, including Kentucky, will be able to view the solar eclipse.

It will start just after 11 a.m. Central Standard Time on Oct. 14 and last a few minutes in each location.

Remember not to look up at the sun, even during this phenomenon.

You can get certified eclipse glasses or special camera and telescope lenses.

Another option is to watch it streaming on NASA’s website.
