GLEAN Fest set to take place in Bowling Green on Oct. 7
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Have you ever heard of gleaning? It solves two local problems: food waste and hunger. This week, a local organization is celebrating those efforts.
Glean Kentucky has been in Bowling Green since September of 2020. To celebrate their anniversary, they’ll be hosting Glean Fest on Saturday, Oct. 7 from 3 to 5 P.M. at the First Christian Church in Bowling Green.
Gleaning involves picking up produce from grocery stores and the Farmers Market and delivering them to organizations that serve the community.
Glean staff hope this Glean Fest brings awareness to their cause.
“We’re a lot newer here to Bowling Green, even though in the last 18 months we’ve rescued over 140,000 pounds of produce and delivered that to these agencies. A lot of people just did not know who we were because we were pretty new on the scene. It’s only been about three years that we’ve been here at all. So what we are wanting to do is raise that awareness,” Jerilyn Bristow of Glean Kentucky’s South Central district says.
