Sen. Rand Paul speaks about the potential government shutdown
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – While in Bowling Green on Tuesday, News 40 spoke to Senator Rand Paul about the looming government shutdown. Lawmakers have until Saturday to reach an agreement.
The senator says it’s mostly poor planning and he believes the government should not spend more money than it has. He also says he would vote for an extension.
“We need to do a better job… it’s just not good planning. We didn’t pass a budget this year and now we haven’t passed an appropriations bill. What they tend to do is put it all together. What I’ve said is ‘I’m fine with giving an extension to let the government pass the appropriations bill, but I’m not fine with funding another government,'” he says.
The shutdown would go into effect on October 1st if no progress is made.
