BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – What started as a dream turned into reality for the Aviation Heritage Park this past Saturday.

The Aviation Heritage Park Museum is now officially open.

Bob Bubnis, the executive director of the Aviation Heritage Park and Museum, says, “To be able to cut the ribbon and open the doors and see the community of Bowling Green just flood through the gates was all the satisfaction I could ask for.”

Bubnis says it’s great to see people interact with the exhibits, and he hopes they feel inspired by them.

Visitors not only experienced history but also got to witness a flyover.

Bubnis says people have visited the aircraft for years to admire them, but an actual museum was an eventual goal to “flesh out those stories and to inspire the next generation of aviators.”

In the future, the museum is always going to be changing up exhibits, Bubnis says. However if you stop by now, you will learn about the south central Kentucky aviators dating back to the ’30s.

One example? Willa Brown, the first African American woman to get a mechanics license and a commercial flying license, according to Bubnis.

He says the museum is also working with educators to form programs for homeschool students and grade school students for trips so that they can learn about aviation, the science behind aviation and the people behind it.

If you would like to learn more about the museum, head over to 1825 Three Springs Road in Bowling Green or visit the Aviation Heritage Park’s website here.
