Out of Darkness Walk brings awareness for 11th year
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – One organization spent their weekend looking to get you involved in spreading the word against suicide with an annual walk.
On Sunday, the 11th annual Suicide Awareness Walk, better known as the Out of the Darkness Walk, kicked off.
The Out of the Darkness community walk is a journey of remembrance, hope and support.
One organization sat down with News 40 and shared with us why this walk means so much to our community and why we need it more than ever.
“People are talking more about mental health since COVID,” says Katelyn Simpson, Bowling Green AFSP walk organizer. “People are asking hard questions. They’re talking more to their kids. However, it’s still the second leading cause of death between the ages of 10 and 34, I mean, that’s a huge number.”
Simpson says the goal of this walk is to unite our community and provide an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental health conditions have affected our lives.
