UPDATE: Escaped inmate from Hart Co. Jail located

HART COUNTY, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police says Tuesday that an escaped inmate from Hart County has been apprehended.

Authorities say KSP, along with the Hart County Sheriff’s Office and Hart County Jail staff, located Jason Cotton, 34, of Bowling Green at about 6 a.m. in the Hardyville area.

Hart County jailer Israel Bergenson said that Cotton escaped Monday while on a garbage truck near Canmer and Hardyville.

Jail records show Cotton was booked at the Hart County Jail on Aug. 16.

His original charges include third-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree bail jumping and first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, first offense (less than 2 grams of methamphetamine).

He also is charged with second-degree escape.

Cotton was taken to the Hart County Jail.
