COLUMBIA, Ky. – Several people are now safe after two children made a call for help in Adair County, officials say.

Adair County Emergency Management says first responders were dispatched Tuesday shortly before 5:30 p.m. Officials say the callers were two young girls that reported multiple children and adults had fallen into a ravine.

The two girls, who were nearly 8 years old, led first responders to the scene once they arrived, according to officials.

Rescuers say upon arriving, they discovered one injured female that had made her way out of the ravine. Three other people remained stuck on a cliff, according to officials.

Rescuers then established rope access, allowing the remaining individuals to be assisted to the top of the ravine.

Officials say all parties were able to then walk out on their own with assistance and had minor cuts and bruising. In total, officials say the rescue response lasted 40 minutes from dispatch to rescue.

The rescue was assisted by Adair EMS, the Adair County Sheriff’s Office, Breeding Fire Department Technical Rescue, Columbia – Adair Co. Fire Department and Campbellsville Fire Rescue.

In a Facebook post, Adair County Emergency Management stated, “I would like to thank the brave girls that made the report, the off-duty firefighter from Lincoln County and the responders for the quick assistance provided.”
