Airlines grounded due to Federal Aviation Administration error

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Due to an error spotted Tuesday, the FAA rebooted their Notice To Air Missions Systems which caused flights to be grounded on Wednesday, January 11.

Commercial airlines across the country were grounded Wednesday morning due to a system error causing the NOTAMS to fail, the NOTAMS being a way to send alerts to airmen from the airports detailing hazardous conditions or changes like construction. In instances like these, it helps airmen know if it’s safe to land or fly into certain air spaces on short notice.

News 40 spoke with Susan Harmon, manager of the Bowling Green Warren County Regional Airport who said they had a flight delayed this morning. A corporate jet was scheduled to take off but was late on departure due to lack of safety mandated by the FAA.
