Officials decide against proposed ban to prevent tattoos over scars
BOWLING GREEN Ky.- The Kentucky Cabinet of Health and Family Services proposed a statewide ban on getting tattoos over scarred skin. Well, that proposed ban is no more.
The cabinet said there’s a lack of “available evidence to support” the proposed ban. The proposal drew backlash from groups that said the proposed rule was unwarranted and unfair.
The Cabinet for Health and Family Services said it received more than 600 public comments on the matter.
The manager of Taboo Brothers Tattoos and Piercings in Bowling Green, Jane Lindsey, is relieved the ban was not instated. The ability to cover scars with tattoos is important to her customers.
“They have scars and they want to get them covered up. A lot of people that’s had surgery, they need that covered up. It means a lot to them, so it means a lot to us” Lindsey said.
A new rule that is taking effect will require anyone registering as a tattoo artist to complete blood borne pathogen training.
