First day of school for preschoolers, WKU students

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Parents, get your cameras ready…

“This is the first day,” said T.C. Cherry preschool student Leo.

It’s the first day of school, ever, for the new preschool students at T.C. Cherry Elementary!

“I like school. My teacher is Ms. Judy, Ms. Andy and Ms. Dana,” said Leo.

The class doubled in size this year thanks to two grants from the Foundry and Community Action that made more resources possible.

“We’ve gone from around 100 students to 166,” said BGISD Director of Instructional Programs Elisa Beth Brown.

The district also increased the days of preschool from two to four days a week.

“Students are learning and they’re getting to be around their peers and starting to learn how school works,” said Brown.

And across town it’s the first, last, day of school for Western Kentucky University seniors.

“I woke up this morning and the idea of me being a senior still hasn’t clicked yet,” said Shwe Win.

“It’s been really exciting to see this new class come in and see all the exciting things that happen in their first year through their eyes and I feel like I’m getting older and growing up,” said Addison Falkner.

They have advice for their younger selves…

“Just have fun, enjoy every single moment of it, smile a lot, help others, and just be you,” said Win.
