Prevent mosquito breeding grounds during humid seasons

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Mosquitoes can lay hundreds of eggs in less than an inch of water…here are some ways to avoid feeling itchy.

The city and county sprays for mosquitoes every season from the right of way.

If someone’s property is too far away for that to help them, there are private companies that can come and spray around your house. This kills the larvae that are sitting in water or damp areas, while trying to slow down active mosquitoes flying around.

You can also do easy things yourself to prevent mosquito breeding grounds…like eliminating standing water, changing the water in bird baths or fountains, and filling temporary pools of water with dirt.

“Once the weather gets real warm and hot they tend to want to move to shady areas but still they need that humidity which is why we have such a problem with more humid times of the year,” said Josh Moore, Director of the Department of Public Works for Warren County.

If you have a swimming pool make sure to keep the water treated and circulating.
