City receives grant to help immigrants find work
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Bowling Green has convened a committee to lead in the development of a multi-sector strategic plan for integrating new Americans in Bowling Green and Warren County.
The newly formed steering committee is comprised of key stakeholders across diverse sectors to oversee the process.
After receiving a grant from gateway for challenge, the Bowling Green Municipal Office is now working to enhance the community’s work force.
This will not only help new Americans but will also help keep money in the county.
The steering committee’s plan is expected to help new Americans in the area start businesses, get their GED, find a job and more.
“We see that the need is out there, and we want to make sure every new American coming into our city has the same opportunities as everyone else,” Leyda Becker, International Communities Liaison for the city of Bowling Green.
“It’s really a key to Bowling Green’s spectacular success, if you look around the country, we are doing things really well right now and other communities wish they were,” Allen Youngman chairman of the International Center Board of Directors.
Key stakeholders across diverse sectors overseeing the process are planning meetings for the upcoming months.
The steering committee’s strategic plan is set to be unveiled to the community in January of 2020.
