Tractors roll back time in Auburn

AUBURN, Ky.- Auburn is offering a blast from the past at the Logan County Antique gas engine and tractor show, where different models of engines, trucks and tractors are on display for all to see.

This is the 29th year for this event, and Auburn Mayor Mike Hughes said he’s looking forward to another great year, in addition to the visitors driving into town.

“Twenty nine years, isn’t that fantastic? The Logan County antique tractor club has been a fantastic partner for the city of Auburn. They’re drawn more people than I can count in. Tonight, there will be numerous people here for the antique tractor pulls,” Hughes said.

In addition to bringing in visitors, the show gives older tractor fans a chance to get back to their roots, with designs and models that aren’t typically seen today. President of the tractor club Keith Wilson said he enjoys hearing people’s stories of their involvement with the older designs.

“Everybody’s got a story, especially the old people. They’ll say ‘I had one of those when I was younger.’ It’s just a good feeling to talk to everybody,” Wilson said.

One person who grew up with these older tractors is former tractor club president Drexel Johnson, who feels right at home.

“I just like restoring something that I was about to give up. I like to bring it back to life, that’s really why I started fooling with these antique tractors,” Johnson said.

Johnson is looking forward to many more years of the antique tractor show, to give the younger generation this blast from the past.

“Twenty nine years is a pretty good while for a show to be continued. We hope that it continues for several more. I’m real proud of it,” Johnson said.
