Franklin Duelers need host families for their baseball players
SOUTH CENTRAL KENTUCKY –The Franklin Duelers, college baseball players, are winding up for their summer season.
“I love being a part of the team, everyone’s got different personalities, everyone’s from different places but you all come together and chase that collective goal to win the OBL and become the best version of a player that we can be by the end of the summer,” said player Nate Cunningham.
Before they bat off for their first game, the Ohio Valley League team needs help from the community.
The team needs four to five more host families for the summer. The team is moving from Franklin to South Warren and lost a few families in the location move.
The players come from all across the country to play right here in the Commonwealth.
Heather Joiner is a former college athlete herself…she’s hosted a few of the players before
“Just provide a home for them, a good family environment, you know cuz they’re away from their families, they’re not like typical college students who might go home, they’re completely away from home,” said Joiner.
She still keeps in touch with the players from Louisiana and California that have stayed with her family… a huge impact on their life and a lasting relationship made.
“It’s super important, ya know. Because those are the people who will make those guys feel comfortable being away from home. They’re the heart and soul of the entire league,” said Cunningham.
