Lincoln Volunteer Fire Department asking fiscal court to raise fire dues to $30
MAMMOTH CAVE, Ky. – The Lincoln Volunteer Fire Department is asking the Edmonson County Fiscal Court to raise fire dues.
If the court agrees to raise the fire dues, the department will be able to purchase more equipment.
In a fiscal court meeting on Tuesday, the Lincoln VFD asked if fire dues could be raised from $25 to $30.
Back in 1977, fire dues were $10.
It took 42 years for the dues to reach $25.
The Lincoln VFD has a 20,000 budget, some of which they used to purchase a new tanker truck which cost $204,000.
They had to borrow more than $150,000 to acquire it.
Insurance is $10,000 a year and new gear is $3,000 per firefighter for volunteer fire departments.
Which is why Fire Chief at Lincoln VFD Steve Sanders says every dollar counts.
The fiscal court will reconvene in two weeks with their decision.
