Be the Light Prom celebrates inclusivity in annual event
SMITHS GROVE, Ky. — It’s prom season, and on Sunday, Cultivate Kindness held a special kind of prom in Smiths Grove.
The Be the Light Prom welcomed different-abled teens and adults for a night of fun, food and dancing at the Hidden Homestead.
This is the third time they’ve held the free event, sponsored by Edmonson State Bank and FHG Clothiers.
Dozens of people attended from Warren County and surrounding counties, and it was sure to be a night to remember, as organizer Emily Wilkins noted.
“To be inclusive and to celebrate them and to know that all their differences — just like yours and ours — is celebrated and loved and they have a community rallying around them. And we’ve got local cheerleaders here from Bowling Green High and Junior High, so it’s nice for them to see some of their peers, too, and connect in that way,” said Wilkins.
Cultivate Kindness is a non-profit organization whose mission is to put more kindness into the world.
