Donate Life brings awareness, honors organ donation

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – This morning, The Medical Center at Bowling Green hosted a ceremony and moment of silence by raising the Donate Life flag to celebrate Donate Life Month. The event honored organ donors and recipients as well as their families.

From the recipients who spoke on how it has impacted their lives to the doctors who promote the Donate Life mission, the event raised awareness of the need for organ, tissue and eye donors.

“The importance of today, being here with my daughter – if it wasn’t for organ donors, I wouldn’t be here with my daughter,” said Bill Gruszczyk, a heart recipient. “I wouldn’t be able to see what she’s grown into, I wouldn’t be able to be here to raise the flag to bring awareness to organ donations, to ask people to please donate.”

Many people may think one has to die to become a donor, however, that is not always the case. You can donate while you are still living, if that is by giving blood, one of your kidneys or plasma. You can go to donatelifeky.org to simply register and save someone’s life by becoming a donor today.
