Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-They may not be people that you think about a lot, but they are crucial to our community’s well being. It’s animal control officer appreciation week.

They do a variety of duties every day, including responding to stray animal calls, welfare checks, and case follow ups. Once in a while they receive livestock calls for cattle or horses who got loose.

A big part of their job is educating the public and trying to help them become better animal owners.

The officers say they hope to make the lives of every animal better.

“I hate saying this, but it’s the truth. There’s a lot of animals that are either neglected, sometimes mistreated due to lack of knowledge and sometimes abused, and if we can find that and stop just a little bit of it, it’s a good day,” said animal control officer Gene Shy.

If you need to contact animal control you can reach them at 270-842-1633.
