Warren County to purchase more severe weather sirens
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Warren County Emergency Management has been given the green light to purchase 11 more severe weather/tornado sirens.
On Monday, the Warren Fiscal Court magistrates approved their request to purchase the Community Outdoor Warning Sirens (COWS).
Most of the $330,000 cost is hoping to be covered by a hazard mitigation grant.
Warren County currently has 33 warning sirens…with 11 more sirens, Director Ronnie Pearson says they are hoping to have everyone covered. He says with the recent December tornadoes, being safe and alert during severe weather is of utmost importance.
“Most of our populated areas are covered, but we do have some small gaps in some communities that add on as we continue to be a growing community. We have gaps that have opened up and we need to fill them. So these new ones will help them,” said Pearson.
Pearson says the county hopes to have the tornado sirens up and running by fall.
