9 Kentucky projects get Energy Department grants

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Officials say grants from the U.S. Department of Energy have been awarded to nine projects in Kentucky. Gov. Andy Beshear and Energy and Environment Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Goodman said Wednesday in a statement that the projects aim to support education, reduce the energy burden in poor communities and improve energy security. Officials say the federal agency provided more than $600,000 for the projects. The Energy and Environment Cabinet plans to work with organizations to begin delivering the programs later this year. The University of Kentucky Center For Applied Energy Research will get the largest award of $182,000 for an electric vehicle project in middle schools across Kentucky.
