BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Two people are behind bars after authorities say a child was found wandering Scottsville Road.

According to a uniform citation, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched Monday around 5:40 p.m. to 6099 Scottsville Road regarding a child being found.

Authorities say upon arrival, they spoke with several individuals, one of which stated a three-year-old child on scene had been running in the road by himself.

Deputies say the individual stated vehicles nearly struck the child twice but stopped “just in time.”

Authorities say the individual stated she called the child over and stood with him. According to the citation, another individual on scene stated this has happened multiple times.

Deputies say the individuals tried to knock on the door of the child’s residence with no answer. After waiting 45 minutes, authorities say one of the individuals called 911.

After an hour of searching for a parent, authorities say two individuals, 49-year-old Jennifer Morlan and 65-year-old Shedrick Johnson, exited the residence, claiming they were responsible for babysitting the child.

Authorities say the child’s mother showed up and asked them to watch the child despite them never babysitting him before.

According to deputies, the Department of Community Based Services stated there was already a case on the child’s mother for similar incidents.

The citation further states Morlan took responsibility of watching the child and stated she had been distracted on the phone while Johnson was asleep.

Both Johnson and Morlan were arrested.

They remain at the Warren County Regional Jail on charges of first-degree wanton endangerment and endangering the welfare of a minor.
