1 transported to Nashville hospital after I-24 crash

CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ky. (WKDZ) – One person was transported to a Nashville hospital following a crash Thursday on Interstate 24, according to a report by WKDZ.

WKDZ reports the wreck occurred on I-24 near the Julian/Newstead exit, closing two lanes of the interstate.

According to WKDZ, Christian County Sheriff’s Office Information Officer John Godsey says the crash took place in the eastbound lanes, causing the fast lanes to close down for around three hours.

A crash report states 38-year-old Alvaro Valle of Miami, Florida had been towing a box truck when his vehicle was struck in the back by a tractor-trailer driven by 40-year-old Omar Al Hamzah of Knoxville, Tennessee, WKDZ states.

WKDZ says both vehicles overturned.

Al Hamzah was flown to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, the report states.

Valle, along with two passengers in the box truck, reportedly did not receive injuries.

WKDZ says the crash report stated Al Hamzah’s speed was listed as a contributing factor in the crash.
