1 killed in Rockcastle County crash

BIG HILL, Ky. – The Rockcastle County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) responded to a fatal collision Monday.

According to a release, a deputy responded to a report of a crash on Highway 421 near Big Hill at approximately 5 am.

RCSO’s preliminary investigation shows that a truck driven by 25-year-old Kevin Wilson, of McKee, crossed into the path of an SUV driven by 45-year-old Matthew Gabbard, of McKee. Wilson’s vehicle had three passengers.

Gabbard was taken to CHI Saint Joseph Hospital in Berea, where he later died, according to the release.

The Rockcastle County Sheriff’s Office, McKee Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, EMS units from Rockcastle, Madison, and Jackson counties, Climax Volunteer Fire Department, Sand Gap Volunteer Fire Department, Rockcastle County Emergency Management, and the Kentucky Department of Transportation responded to the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
