1 dead after vehicle allegedly hits bicycle in Cave City

CAVE CITY, Ky. – One person is dead after authorities say a vehicle struck a bicycle in Cave City on Saturday.

According to the Kentucky State Police, around 9 p.m. Saturday, troopers received a request for assistance from the Cave City Police Department regarding a fatal collision.

Troopers say they responded to 1224 North Dixie Highway (U.S. 31-W).

Authorities say a preliminary investigation found that 65-year-old King Martin of Cave City was operating a bicycle southbound on U.S. 31-W. A 2024 Nissan Murano driven by 49-year-old Phillip West of Horse Cave was traveling in the same direction when the front end of the vehicle struck Martin’s bicycle, according to authorities.

Martin was pronounced dead at the scene by the Barren County Coroner’s Office.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Cave City Police Department, Barren County EMS, the Barren County Coroner’s Office and additional KSP personnel.
