1 dead, 1 transported after collision in Green County

UPDATE May 13 at 4:01 p.m.: 

GREENSBURG, Ky. – One person is dead and another was transported following a collision in Green County.

According to the Kentucky State Police, troopers were requested by the Green County Sheriff’s Office to respond to a two-vehicle crash just after 11:30 a.m. Tuesday morning on U.S. 68 (Edmonton Road).

Troopers say a preliminary investigation revealed 76-year-old Janice McKinney of Greensburg was traveling east on U.S. 68 in a 2009 Kia Rio. McKinney crossed the centerline and entered the westbound lane of U.S. 68 into the path of a vehicle traveling west on U.S. 68, driven by 30-year-old Cody Richmond of Greensburg.

McKinney was pronounced dead at the scene by the Green County coroner. Richmond was transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

KSP Post 15 troopers were assisted at the scene by the Green County Sheriff’s Office, Kentucky Fish and Wildlife, Green County Fire/EMS, Green County Coroner’s Office and the Kentucky State Highway Department.

The investigation is ongoing.

GREEN COUNTY, Ky. – First responders are currently reconstructing a reported fatal wreck in Green County, transportation officials say.

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District Four, U.S. 68 is shut down in the Thurlow community of southern Green County due to a fatal collision.

Just before noon, transportation officials stated reconstruction and clearing the scene is expected to take a few hours.

Drivers are advised to detour using Mount Lebanon Church Road and Kentucky 218.
