Fatal Crash

COLSON, Ky. – One person is dead and another has been flown for treatment after a collision in Letcher County.

According to the Kentucky State Police, troopers responded Saturday at about 11:52 p.m. to a crash detection alert near the intersection of Kentucky 7 and Kentucky 1410.

Upon arrival, authorities say they located a vehicle that had traveled over an embankment.

Authorities say they found through a preliminary investigation that 71-year-old Kathy Hall of Deane was traveling on KY-7 north while transporting a passenger to the hospital for a medical emergency.

Troopers say during the trip, the passenger, 72-year-old Eugene Hall of Deane, became unresponsive.

As a result, the vehicle exited the roadway and over-corrected, crossing the center line before overturning onto its drivers side in a nearby creek, authorities say.

Eugene Hall was pronounced dead at the scene by the Letcher County Coroner’s Office. Kathy Hall was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.

Toxicology and autopsy results are pending.

According to authorities, both occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
