Woodburn Fire Department holds community fundraiser

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Fire trucks, ice cream, food trucks and more all created an exciting outdoor community event held in Woodburn on Saturday to raise funds for a volunteer fire department.

Over the weekend, the Woodburn Fire Department partnered with some local food trucks, a band and a local church to host a community and fundraiser event.

Kids enjoyed inflatables and other games with stuffed animal prizes while adults were able to purchase raffle tickets for cakes, firearms and food baskets.

The event was several hours long and attendees enjoyed purchasing balloons and watermelons as well.

Chaney’s Dairy Barn, Pelican’s SnoBalls and Ladybugs Fritters and Fries served delicious treats and gave a portion of their proceeds to the fire department.

“This year we’ve changed our format some. Instead of providing the food ourselves, we brought in some food trucks. We’ve got live music. We’ve got games for the kids. Different community organizations have coming to help set up different booths. So it’s all about our community and that’s what we’re wanting to promote now” said Woodburn Fire Chief Bob Skipper.

The annual Ice Cream Supper fundraiser used to be a main fundraiser for the fire department, but now, fire dues fund much of the necessary expenses for running the station.

Still, though, the fundraiser raised a total of around $2,000 for the department to purchase equipment, pay for training and other essentials.
