WNKY NEWS 40 HEALTH REPORTS: Orthopedic Injuries

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – You were out being a “weekend warrior” when you felt your ankle pop…and then the pain set in.

It’s just a sprain, right?

Injuries to bones and ligaments can be serious even if there’s no broken bone. Dr. Romine, an orthopedic surgeon with Graves Gilbert Clinic says diagnosing orthopedic injuries takes a systematic approach. He says an x-ray is the easiest way to check for a broken bone.

And even when it’s not a bone break, the pain could point to another injury, such as a torn ligament=or sprain, which can take up to six or even eight weeks to heal. And everyday use can slow the healing process.

Dr. Romine recommends staying active and physically fit to help reduce the risk of getting injured. He also recommends warming up before any strenuous physical activity.
