WKU, government officials proclaim April 28 “Bike4Alz Day”

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Western Kentucky University and government officials are honoring a student-run nonprofit.
WKU, the City of Bowling Green, and the Commonwealth of Kentucky are recognizing April 28 as “Bike4Alz Day” statewide.
A proclamation was held on Tuesday at Centennial Mall.
Bike4Alz is a student-run nonprofit based at WKU that raises awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s research.
The nonprofit hosts an annual cross-country cycling trip made by 12 undergraduates. The trip is from San Francisco, California, to Virginia Beach, Virginia. The ride is 3,600 miles.
The 2026 Bike4Alz will be the 14th trip in the nonprofit’s history.
Bike4Alz has raised close to $800,000 for Alzheimer’s research since 2010. All proceeds benefit the Alzheimer’s Association and the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging at the University of Kentucky.
The cycling team will depart Bowling Green for San Francisco on May 13. The official ride will begin May 17, and cyclists will travel through Bowling Green on July 5-7.
The trip is expected to be completed in Virginia Beach on July 26.
