Wilkerson drops out of mayor’s race citing health concerns, endorses Alcott
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Mayor Bruce Wilkerson announced Tuesday afternoon he is dropping out of the race for re-election and is asking for voters to support Todd Alcott.
Wilkerson will remain in office until the end of his term in December.
Wilkerson decided not to run due to a recurring health issue, he said Tuesday afternoon at City Hall.
Wilkerson has served as mayor for nine years. Tuesday he hand delivered a letter to Warren County Clerk Lynette Yates asking to have his name removed from the ballot.
Alcott, who sat next to Wilkerson in the City Commission Chambers during his announcement, said he was honored to receive Wilkerson’s support.
Alcott had already filed to run for the office.
“I appreciate your vote of confidence,” Alcott said to Wilkerson.
Alcott is a retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel who currently teaches JROTC at Warren East High School.
