BURKESVILLE, Ky. – A wife has been charged with murder after her husband’s death in Cumberland County on Tuesday.

According to the Kentucky State Police, troopers received a call Tuesday night from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office requesting investigative assistance regarding a shooting at a residence on Red Banks Road in Cumberland County.

Authorities say they responded to the scene, with a preliminary investigation finding the sheriff’s office had received a report of a single-vehicle collision on Red Banks Road.

Upon arrival of a deputy, along with EMS, authorities say they discovered a male occupant, identified as 60-year-old James Edens of Burkesville, had sustained a gunshot wound.

James Edens was transported to the Cumberland County Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by the Cumberland County coroner.

Authorities say James Edens and his wife, 52-year-old Heather Edens of Burkesville, were involved in a verbal argument at a residence on Red Banks Road just prior to the collision.

Troopers say during the argument, it was determined Heather Edens shot a gun, striking James Edens and causing fatal injuries.

Heather Edens was arrested and charged with murder. She has been lodged at the Adair County Detention Center.

The investigation remains ongoing. Troopers were also assisted by the Burkesville Police Department.
