Warren County Storm Water plants six new trees at Basil Griffin Park

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – On Friday morning at Basil Griffin, Warren County Stormwater invited members of the community to plant trees in the parks wetland.

Six new trees were planted along the wetland in Basil Griffin to aid in getting cleaner storm water that flows into the Lost River Cave system.

Along with cleaning the nutrients in the water, the trees will provide habitat for wildlife in the area as well.

The tree planting at Basil Griffin was a part of a bigger project that Warren County Stormwater is planning which is all funded through the grants with no public dollars being used.

This is just the next step in the phase of their project, with more planting coming down the road this fall and next spring.

“We’re going to just slowly build out the diversity of the plantings that we’re going to have. Whether it’s trees and shrubs, or flowering forbs, things like milkweed and asters that the butterflies need.” Said Nikki Koller, Director of Warren County Storm Water. “So we want to really want to build a balanced ecosystem, but it’s going to take some time.” Koller added.
