Warren County Fiscal Court honors sailor who died at Pearl Harbor

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Friday morning in the Warren County Fiscal Court, the court took a moment to honor the late Howard Scott Magers who died in the bombing of Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.

His body was recently recovered from the S.S. Oklahoma and is in the process of coming home to Merry Oaks in Barren County to be buried in the plot next to his mother and father.

This has been a homecoming 80 years in the making.

Warren County Judge-Executive Mike Buchanon made the announcement this morning in order to honor Howard Scott Magers service to the nation.

Magers’ sister-in-law, Betty Magers, accepted the proclamation in his honor.

“I appreciate this honor that is bestowed on us on behalf of all the Magers’ family. We do appreciate it. I appreciate the honor that you’re giving him. We are happy to have him home at last,” said Magers.

Magers will be buried behind Merry Oaks United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Saturday in the afternoon.

The public is invited to attend.
