The Wall That Heals in Russellville
RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – It’s been a year in the making and now it’s finally here.
The Wall That Heals is a 3/4 size replica of the Vietnam Wall memorial in Washington, D.C. that was created in order to serve an emotional and physical need. The wall travels the country setting up shop in cities for a few days to allow community members and travelers willing to go the distance to see something many Americans would like to but can’t always make happen.
This year, staff chose Russellville to be one of 33 stops and the hope is that it will help who it needs to. The wall not only serves as a memorial depicting names of lives lost but also as a mobile education center.
News 40 spoke to several people for the escorting of the wall to Russellville, one of which was Denise Shoulders. Shoulders serves as the chair for the Logan County Honor Group who said when she found out last year that you could apply for the wall to come to you, she hopped right on it.
Shoulders also said that a few more volunteers are needed to make the week smooth, so if anyone is interested in helping out she told News 40 people can come out to the Walnut Grove Baptist church at any time as it is run 24 hours a day.
The Wall That Heals is open to the public starting June 5 to June 9.
