BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Medical Centers at Bowling Green and Albany are recertified as Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Ready hospitals, according to Med Center Health.

The organization says the two hospitals maintain a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, or SANE, on call at all times.

Health officials say both Medical Center locations have been certified as SANE Ready hospitals since 2024.

“No matter when a patient presents after a sexual assault, our nurses are available to provide quality, compassionate, trauma-informed, and patient-centered care to the residents of Southcentral Kentucky,” said Melissa Gilpin, SANE program administrator.

According to Med Center Health, The Medical Center at Bowling Green is the only hospital in the 10-county Barren River Area Development District to receive this certification and only one of 25 hospitals statewide.

In addition, the organization says The Medical Center at Albany is the only SANE Ready hospital in the Lake Cumberland Area Development District. Med Center Health says it now has 23 SANE nurses company-wide.

“Med Center Health’s SANE program embodies our mission to care for people and improve the quality of life in the communities we serve,” said Gilpin. “By providing compassionate, trauma-informed care, preserving the integrity of forensic evidence, and advancing the education of specialized nurses, our SANE team ensures that survivors across Southcentral Kentucky receive expert care when they need it most. Through clinical excellence, innovation, and education, the SANE program exemplifies Med Center Health’s vision of leading healthcare delivery and improving outcomes for our patients and communities.”

Med Center Health says it has provided SANE Nurse training to nurses at every hospital in the BRADD area.
