BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- The Fraternal Order of Police headed out Tuesday night to help the community and have a little fun in the process.

But what you might not expect is that it took place at a local grocery store.

For the past 50 years, the FOP has held their annual Shop With a Cop event. This event has not only helped the community by providing clothes and school supplies. This holiday season, the gifts collected at Meijer provide a connection and so much more to families in need.

President of the Bowling Green FOP, Mike Nade, shares the motivation behind shopping with a cop.

Nade says, “We want to say thank you and give back like we always do and have the kids see us in a good light. You know, know that we’re always here, and we just don’t show up when bad things happen. We get to bring the kids out and just show them our appreciation for them and get to interact with them. We are all one community. We live here too. We want to let them know that we support them and we appreciate their support.”

The final message? Support and community can be found ahead of the holidays.
